When I first started this blog, DJ S!D--Sidney Joffrion--was among the first people I thought of. He represents what I want to do. Getting to know local artists that are on their grind. As I was finding information on my local Pride Community on Facebook, I came across DJ S!D's profile. I remember him because he was selling t-shirts at his regular gig at Derailed Bar & Grill. It sparked my interest because I am a barber who is trying to promote myself as a brand as well. I was officially introduced to Sid by a mutual friend, who so happens to be his brother. I was shook by how attractive this guy was. I just had to know more about him. I learned that he was a budding DJ with excellent talent and even experience in stage production, lighting, and leadership. One of the first things we discussed was his current struggle of promoting himself and using social media to his advantage. Being in social media, I offered to talk more about the subject when he was slightly less busy--to which he agreed. I gave him my business card and he gave me his sticker, lol, along with his business card.
What started out as a conversation fueled by attraction, later turned into a genuine interaction with this guy. A friendship I dare say. He may not be into guys, but he surely loves music.
I enjoyed talking to him after his set. Being from Alabama, he has a story similar to many in that area. Small town guy wanting more out of life. I can see his hunger and passion for the things he enjoys. The way he controls the crowd with knowing exactly what to play at the right time is a true skill. Hes also a social butterfly; there isn't a stranger he won't shake hands with or give a hug to. Which I think is a great trait to have if you want to make it in this industry. While playing an estimated average of 70-75 events per year, ranging from Pride on the Plains 2018, holiday and house parties, weddings, and regular weekly bookings at local bars, I'm looking forward to what this hot new DJ brings in the near future.
